Srinagar: A soldier was killed on Tuesday as army foiled two infiltration bids along the Line of Control in last 48 hours in Uri and Naugam sectors in Jammu & Kashmir.
"Two infiltration bids by militants from across the Line of Control have been foiled in Uri and Naugam sectors today. At both places the operations are in progress," an army spokesman said here.
The spokesman refused to comment on the number of militants killed in the ongoing operations so far saying details will be made public in due course.
He said one soldier was killed in the operation in Naugam sector.
However sources said, at least 10 militants were killed who attempted to infiltrate India from LoC reportedly under the cover of Pakistani firing.
Since Wednesday morning, a massive combing operation underway and the security forces have cordoned off the area. It is believed that 5 more terrorists are still hiding in the jungle areas.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair an emergency meeting of the cabinet committee on security to finalise India's response to Pakistan - even as his government is waging a diplomatic war at the United Nations.
Party sources said, Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj, Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Defence minister Manohar Parrikar and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley met BJP president Amit Shah on Tuesday and briefed him on India's stand at the UNGA.
BJP sources said that the party has given its full backing to the PM to launch an offensive against Pakistan.
