TIRUCHY: A total of 127 anti-Koondankulam protesters, including 41 women, who were lodged in the Central Prison and the Special Prison for Women, were released on Tuesday after 15 days. They returned home at nightThe protesters, who were granted bail by the Valliyur court on Friday, fulfilled the bail conditions on Monday and were released on Tuesday. Since 29 other persons, including a woman, are facing other cases, they were taken to the Valliyur court for extension of judicial custody. Those released were received by the members of the Human Rights Protection Centre at the entrance of the prison and were taken to their native place in a separate vehicle.On March 19, police arrested more than 200 people from Koottapuli near Idinthakarai when they tried to block a road even as Section 144 was imposed in the region. Cases under more than 178 sections were registered against the anti-KKNPP protesters. Among them, 156 persons, including 42 women, were brought to Tiruchy and lodged in the Central prison and Special Prison for Women on the same day.
