TIRUNELVELI: Police detained 181 members of India Thouheed Jamaath, including its national leader S M Baker, when they attempted to take out a Babri Masjid Redemption Communal Harmony yatra from Melapalayam on Saturday. The Jamaath had earlier announced that it would hold a statewide yatra, which will start on November 19 from Tirunelveli to Chennai, stressing their demand of handing over the Babri Masjid land to Muslims.Based on their announcement, members gathered on Melapalayam Bazaar Street, with a van designed like the Babri Masjid for the yatra, though police had denied permission. After Baker’s address the police asked them to disperse, but they refused and this led to the arrests.
