19 booked for attack on cops in Tirupur

TIRUPUR: An attempt to murder case has been registered against 19 people who pelted stones on a police team at Thalavaipattinam near Dharapuram on Wednesday.Police sources said supporters of two panchayat president candidates clashed over some issue at a polling station in Thalavaipattinam during the second phase of the local body elections. When police officials tried to pacify the crowd, they started pelting stones. In the incident, Tirupur District Crime Records Bureau Inspector Pannerselvam suffered serious head injuries. Tirupur South Police Sub-inspector Sasikala, Constable Karthik and Home Guard Noorudin also suffered injuries. Both the groups fled the scene before the additional police could reach the spot. The Alangium Police filed a case under Sections307 (attempt to murder), 147, 323, 324, 332 of IPC, and Sec 4 of the TN Public Property (Prevention of Destruction) Act against all the 19.
