A 32-year-old was killed on Thursday morning after being struck by a bike allegedly ridden by a 15-year-old in the Mazgaon area of Mumbai.
The victim, identified as Irfan Nawab Ali Shaikh, sustained severe injuries and was rushed to JJ Hospital for treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries, police said.
The JJ Marg Police Station apprehended the minor involved in the incident, who has been sent to Dongri Children’s Home. Additionally, the minor’s father was arrested in connection with the case.
The police further registered a case under section 304(2) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections 3 and 4 of the Motor Vehicle Act.
The incident follows a widespread outcry over the Porsche accident in Pune involving a teenager who was driving the luxurious car while intoxicated. The crash led to the deaths of two young IT professionals in the city.
Anis Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta, both 24 years old and hailing from Madhya Pradesh, were returning from a dinner with friends when the speeding Porsche collided with their motorcycle at the Kalyani Nagar junction in the early hours of Sunday. Tragically, both succumbed to their injuries.
The 17-year-old, who was behind the wheel of the speeding Porsche, was brought before the Juvenile Justice Board and was granted bail on the same day.
The decision to grant bail has sparked controversy due to the conditions imposed, which include volunteering with the traffic police and composing an essay on road accidents.
The father of the minor was also taken into custody on Tuesday evening in central Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar town. The teen’s father, a prominent real estate developer, was apprehended by the crime branch officers investigating the accident case.
