They then decided to sell off the gold.On Thursday, Dinesh and his uncle Suresh took the gold to meet prospective buyers at Parry’s Corner. As the price offered was not satisfactory, he took them back and locked them in the glove box of his scooter. En route to Egmore, where the two planned to have dinner, they were forced to stop for a while due to sudden rains. Sunil and Dinesh took cover from the downpour near a paan shop and bought ‘beedas’ before they left for Egmore.After they reached an Egmore eatery, Dinesh stopped the scooter and checked his glove box to make sure the gold was intact. To his shock, all of the 3.5 kg of gold was missing.The jewellery would fetch crores of rupees in an open market. Police suspected foul play and have launched an investigation.Husband arrested for woman cop’s suicideA woman constable’s husband was arrested by the City police for allegedly forcing her to commit suicide, here on Thursday. Sangeetha(32), a cop attached to the Police Control Room, doused herself with kerosene at her quarters, Singarathottam, Royapuram.She succumbed to injuries at Kilpauk Medical College Hospital on July 1. Her husband, Velkumar(36), who was injured while attempting to save her, was being treated at the same hospital. A case under Section 309 of IPC and 174(iii) of CrPc was registered. Investigations revealed that Velkumar had been torturing his wife.It was also revealed that she had been traumatised by Velkumar, which forced her to take the extreme step. Subsequently, the sections of the case were altered with the addition of Section 306 of IPC  and Velkumar was arrested. He was produced before a Metropolitan Magistrate who remanded him to judicial custody for 15 days.Man’s body found in decomposed stateThe decomposed body of a youth who was making livelihood through seeking alms from devotees visiting Iraniyamman Temple was found in a private building here on Friday.Police said Anand, (27), son of Mani, a native of Coimbatore, had been staying in the temple for several years. The temple managed by HR & CE had been attracting a lot of passers-by who stopped here and offered prayers ahead of their travel. Besides Anand, there were a dozen people in that area regularly selling flowers and pooja materials and there were some performing minor prayers on the road.The youth was said to have been missing since Saturday.  On Friday morning, the devotees who visited the temple complained of a stench from the temple. Later, it was   identified that the foul smell was emanating from a private building which was closed down a fortnight back.On information, the police rushed to the spot and found the body in a decomposed condition. It was recovered by the police and sent to Chrompet Government General Hospital for post mortem.
