The total estimated cost of the seized contraband was Rs 32 lakh. “It is a huge haul of ganja in the district till date,” said Superintendent of Police of Vellore I Eswaran. On interrogation, police found that the person, who had tried to smuggle the contraband, had hired the ambassador car from Rajahmundry Railway Station for Rs 7,000 to ferry the contraband to Chennai. “Though Moorthy was aware of the contraband in the bags, he did not know anything about the person, who hired him,” said Inspector Suresh. The police registered a case against Moorthy under Section 8 (c) read with 20 (B) (c) of Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
