THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government will bring in nine engineering colleges in the government sector under the Technical University which is being mooted by the Education Department, Education Minister Abdu Rabb has said. He was listing out the achievements of his department in implementing the 100-day action programme here on Tuesday. The Minister said that in the first phase only government colleges would be brought under the technical university. Self-financing colleges would be considered only at a later stage, he said. The rehabilitation package for teachers would be placed in the next Cabinet meeting and would be okayed, the Minister said. The confusion over the teachers’ rehabilitation package with regard to filling of vacancies in those schools where only one vacancy was reported would be resolved by then, the Minister said. An online facility has been kept ready to implement the package as soon as it receives the Cabinet nod, he said. Abdu Rabb said that the department had been successful in implementing ICT-based education in schools, right from Class I. The MHRD has appreciated the ICT training given by the department to visually-challenged teachers in the state. Steps were taken in colleges for the preservation of historical structures. Under the aegis of SSA, e-toilets were set up in more than 200 schools in the first phase, the Education Minister said. CD marts were opened by SIET for students. The department had rolled out the citizens charter in its general education and higher education sectors, he said. ENS
