BANGALORE: A resurgent Congress, buoyed by its victory in the recently held by-election to the Udupi-Chikmagalur Lok Sabha constituency, is expected to put the government on the defensive when both the houses of the state Legislature resume session on Monday. The Congress is expected to raise several issues in the House in the form of adjournment motions, including the failure of the state government to commence drought relief works, delay in appointment of the Lokayukta and withdrawal of cases filed by the Lokayukta against BJP ministers and former ministers. The party is also expected to raise a war cry over the failure of the police to prevent the clash between advocates and media personnel on the city court complex premises on March 2. Add to this the infighting within the BJP, which led to an open rebellion against the chief minister, and discussions in the Legislature are all set to generate a lot of heat.Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Siddaramaiah, merely said: “We will meet prior to the House session and work out plans.”The Congress has not moved any no-confidence motion against the BJP, which has been in power in state since May 2008. With infighting in the BJP reaching a crescendo, the Congress may not rule out moving no-confidence motion against the government.
