The 2014 Lok Sabha elections is no longer a contest between the two major political parties - Congress and BJP - as the debutante Aam Aadmi Party has sounded the bugle for the general elections. After the AAP government in the national capital resigned on Friday, it is busy focusing on the upcoming general elections.
The AAP has decided that it will contest the Lok Sabha election in as many seats and has released list of 20 candidates.
Kumar Vishwas will be contesting against Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi, who is an MP from Amethi in Uttar Pradesh. Former journalist Ashutosh is pitched against Union Minister Kapil Sibal from Chandni Chowk constituency in Delhi.
Mukul Tripathy will contest against External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid from Farrukhabad. Challenging Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav from Mainpuri in Uttar Pradesh is Baba Hardeve.
Sources say Anjali Damania will contest against former BJP President Nitin Gadkari from Nagpur, Meera Sanyal is likely to get a ticket from South Mumbai against Milind Deora while Mayank Gandhi could take on Gurudas Kamat from North East Mumbai.
Khalid Parvez to contest against Congress MP Mohammad Azharuddin from Moradabad constituency and Subhash Wade against Congress MP Suresh Kalmadi from Pune.
Senior lawyer and Human Rights activist HS Phoolka to contest from Ludhiana. Yogendra Yadav to contest from Gurgaon. Social activist Medha Patkar to contest from Mumbai North East.
The AAP has also launched its 'Jhadoo Chalao Yatra' which began on February 15 and will continue till February 24. The party will fight on the plank of corruption as it did in Delhi.
In an interview of IBN18 Editor-in-Chief Rajdeep Sardesai, Kejriwal had said that the AAP is not ready to fight the Lok Sabha elections, but the common man, the voters of the country are prepared to fight the elections. He also expressed confidence that the results of the Delhi Assembly will be replicated in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls too.
Even though Kejriwal will lead the election campaign, he said, "I have not yet decided on fighting the elections." But he was confident that the party will win at least 50 seats in the polls.
