New Delhi: Passengers on-board a New Delhi-bound Air India flight from Bagdogra were left gasping for breath on Sunday when the air-conditioning system of the aircraft malfunctioned. The passengers complained to the cabin crew and were reportedly assured that the ACs would be back on, but the issue was not resolved.
The AI-880, an Airbus 320, took off from Bagdogra in West Bengal with 168 passengers on board at 1:55pm. Around 20 minutes into the flight, passengers complained of the ACs not working. Some tried to put on the oxygen masks, but these too were reportedly not functioning.
“The AC in the flight was not working and many passengers started feeling uneasy and complained of breathlessness. One passenger tried to use the oxygen mask, but that too was not working. We conveyed the same to a flight attendant and she said the issue will get resolved in some time. After landing at the Delhi airport (at 3:50pm), the passengers waited for the captain and the crew members. It took them a long time to come out," Debasmita Basak, a passenger, told CNN-News18, adding that they were “not happy" with the response of the flight staff.
In a video shot by one of the passengers, the fliers could be seen fanning themselves with in-flight pamphlets.
When contacted, Air India said it was a technical issue and an inquiry would be initiated.
