Shabd Sahityik Sanstha, Bengaluru, a reputed literary organisation of Hindi writers of the city, announced the winners of its two annual awards, Agyeya Shabd Srijan Samman and Dakshin Bharat Shabd Hindi Sevi Samman, for the year 2024 on Friday.
The Agyeya Shabd Srijan Samman of rupees one lakh will be awarded to eminent Hindi novelist Bhagwandas Morwal for his novel Khanzada. Similarly, the Dakshin Bharat Shabd Hindi Sevi Samman worth twenty-one thousand rupees will be given to the diligent Hindi scholar and educationist Dr Ghanshyam S for his significant contribution to the promotion of Hindi teaching and the spread of women’s education in southern India.
Dr Shreenarayan Sameer, president of Shabd Sahityik Sanstha announced this and said in a press release that both the awardees will be presented Mysore Peta, memento, and Angavastram, along with prize money at an annual function to be held in Bengaluru on December 22. He mentioned that the Agyeya Shabd Srijan Samman will be presented by the foundation belonging to Bengaluru’s renowned social worker and exponent of Agyeya literature Babulal Gupta. The Dakshin Bharat Shabd Hindi Sevi Samman will be presented courtesy Dakshin Bharat Rashtramat, a leading Hindi newspaper published from Bengaluru and Chennai.
According to the press release, the decision of both awards was made unanimously by the jury. The selected entries were evaluated and recommended by a five-member evaluation committee of scholars of Hindi language and literature. In the decision, along with a transparent evaluation of the works of the selected authors/poets, their creative contribution until now was also taken into consideration.
A total of 30 entries received for the above awards were evaluated by the committee headed by renowned editor and Agyeya exponent Om Thanvi and consisting of writers and critics Dr Arvind Kumar, Dr Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat and Ramita Singh. After considering the evaluation and recommendations of the evaluators as a whole, the jury decided the names of the award winners unanimously. The jury members include Babulal Gupta, Shrikant Parashar, Nalini Popat, and Dr Ushaa Rani Rao. Dr Shrinarayan Sameer was the convener of both the evaluation committee and the jury.
The jury has said in its recommendation for the Agyeya Shabd Srijan Samman: “Bhagwandas Morwal is a powerful storyteller of social reality, irony and Dalit identity in contemporary Hindi fiction. His Khanzada novel expands and enriches the narrative spectrum of Hindi literature by depicting the struggle of Indian rulers fighting the Mughal invaders and the untouched aspects of the bravery of the Mewatis.”
Similarly, in the recommendation of Dakshin Bharat Shabd Hindi Sevi Samman, the jury has said: “Dr Ghanshyam S has done a unique job in spreading education and ensuring quality education as well as women’s empowerment in the Telangana region. He has done a great job of strengthening the sentiments of the nation by promoting the spirit of Telugu-Hindi friendship through his work and conduct.”
