MADURAI: A land grab complaint against Alagiri’s men, including DMK chief executive committee member S R Gopi, urban district secretary G Thalapathi, tahsildar Manickam and a few others, was filed here on Wednesday. The complaint was made by Pappa and Sivanandi, of Tirumangalam, regarding a dispute in their 5.14-acre land in Sengulam village near Tirumangalam. The couple stated that they had obtained loans from Tamil Nadu Industrial Investment Corporation (TIIC) for setting up a mill in 2005 and had suffered severe loss. With the involvement of some officials from the TIIC, they were forced to part with the land worth Rs 5.14 crore to a paltry liability of `1.4 crore by giving power of attorney to an unknown person. The couple said that they have found that the land was registered to one Nareshkumar. But the power of attorney was cancelled by the couple as the pending amount was not paid in June 2009.Later, a person claiming himself as Nareshkumar came with the police to threaten the couple for cancelling his power of attorney to sell the land, according to the petition. The family then approached Manickam, a relative, for help. Later, Manickam forcibly took the family to the office of Pottu Suresh where Thalapathi, Gopi, Moogambigai Sethuraman, Tirumangalam Union Chairman Kodi Chandrasekaran, and two others advised the family to give away the land to them so as to tackle Nareshkumar and his influence. After a few days, the family was beaten up and forcibly taken to the Sub-Registrar Office, where the members were asked to give power of attorney to one Krishnasamy whose spouse Indragandhi was a DMK general body member and Thirunagar Municipality Chairman. The family was offered only `40 lakh and was not given the rest of the money. Speaking to Express, Superintendent of Police in Madurai Asra Garg said that a complaint has been received against the said DMK functionaries and investigations were on.
