Amroha baby sale case: NCPCR demands action
A CNN-IBN Cobrapost expose on babies for sale showed how a government hospital in Amroha in western Uttar Pradesh had become a shop for babies.

New Delhi: The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) on Monday wrote to the Chief Secretary of Uttar Pradesh demanding action on the Amroha baby sale case by April 23. Taking cognizance of the CNN-IBN Cobrapost expose on babies for sale, the NCPCR asked the state government to get the alleged racket, not only in Amroha/JP Nagar but also in the hospitals/nursing homes throughout the state, thoroughly investigated on a random basis.

The Commission further asked the UP government to intimate it about the safeguards put in place by the DG Health Services or the Hospital Administration of the state government and the District Administration in the nursing homes and hospitals against the sale and/or illegal adoption of the babies.

It asked the UP government to immediately inform it about the measures taken by it and the District Administration to get FIRs registered against all the accused under relevant penal sections.

It also asked the government to provide initial Action Taken Report (ATR) latest by April 23 and to get the alleged racket not only in Amroha/JP Nagar but also in the hospitals/nursing homes throughout the state thoroughly investigated on a random basis.

"The investigation may be carried out by a team of CB-CID, headed by a Senior Officer not below the rank of DIG and the process be completed within three months," the letter stated.

The NCPCR further asked the UP government to take all necessary actions as per law and as per the facts and circumstances of the case.

Meanwhile, an FIR was filed against seven of the accused in the case earlier on Monday. These included two doctors of the government hospital in Amroha.

The action came after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav took note of the investigation and instructed the district administration to probe the matter.

For a price, the staff of the hospital stole children of poor parents and sold them to the highest bidder.
