BHUBANESWAR: The 10th National Anjali National Children’s Festival was inaugurated by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at the Adivasi grounds here on Wednesday. The festival was kickstarted by the Carnival of Joy in which approximately 1500 children took part. The rally which started from St Joseph’s High School and converged at the Adivasi grounds, was flagged off by Cuttack-Bhubaneswar Police Commissioner B K Sharma. Children from across the country participated in the rally. The Chief Minister distributed prizes among the children for bravery and other achievements. He interacted with the prize winners. Sruti Mohapatra, the founder of Swabhiman, announced the details of the six-day programme. The festival has entered the 10th year and the theme for this year is “Tales and Legends”. She also talked of the various inter-school and inter-college competitions which would take place in the next six days. The main objective of the festival is to provide a platform to all the children and also the specially-abled, from across the country to compete and celebrate. The volunteers of the event, sporting tee shirts with the logo, “Say Yes to All Children” simply echoed the thought. The theme has been specifically selected to let the children experience a magical land. Fairyland, a first of its kind concept in India, is one such platform that has visual, auditory, olfactory and tactile experiences so that even the children with disability can enjoy. Film shows, workshops on puppetry, pottery, terracotta, inter-college band competition and festival of joy are among the many programmes that will keep the participants engaged for the next five days. State Commissioner for Disability, Kasturi Mohapatra and Secretary, Ministry of Women and Child Development, Aarti Ahuja were present.
