Follow us:WhatsappFacebookTwitterTelegram.cls-1{fill:#4d4d4d;}.cls-2{fill:#fff;}Google NewsIn continued attacks by sand mafia against revenue staff despite slapping of police cases against the culprits, the driver of a tractor carrying sand illegally tried to bury a village revenue officer (VRO) under a heap of sand at Nimmagadda village in Challapalli mandal in Krishna district on Sunday morning. According to Challapalli VRO, the victim, GV Ramana, went to Nadakuduru to stop sand smuggling after receiving a phone call from Challpalli tahasildar K Sudh Rani. He tried to intercept the tractor carrying sand at Puritigadda village. But tractor driver did not stop the vehicle and proceeded towards Nimmagadda. When the VRO chased the tractor on his motorcycle, the driver tried to kill him by lifting the hydraulic trolley of the tractor to dump sand on him. The driver also tried hit the VRO's bike. The VRO slipped and fell in mud. The tractor driver ran way leaving the vehicle on the river bank at Nimmagadda. Sudha Rani said a complaint was lodged with Challapalli police and issue was also brought to the notice of Krishna district Tahasildars Association (KTA). Jaggaiahpet tahasildar V Madan Mohan, who was also a victim of the sand mafia, said revenue officials met on Sunday and came up with some proposals to prevent such attacks. "As illegal transportation of sand has become a regular affair, a team consisting of police, mining, transport and panchayat raj officials should be formed to check the illegal transportation of sand. Checkposts or police pickets should also be set up," he added.Tahasildar ThreatenedPRODDATUR: Jammalamadugu in-charge tahasildar Tirapataiah was threatened by the sand mafia for acting tough against them. Tirupataiah, along with mines and geology officials, conducted raids and seized 60 tractors with sand at Gudemcheruvu village in the mandal on Saturday night. While Tirupataiah went to oversee the conduct of Group II examination in the district on Sunday, sand mafia member Narasaiah visited his house in the evening and threatened his family with dire consequences. Tirupataiah complained to RDO Ramana Reddy following the incident. The RDO said stern action will be taken against Narasaiah.  first published:July 23, 2012, 09:24 ISTlast updated:July 23, 2012, 09:24 IST
