Assam: Tourist bus catches fire, 5 dead

Guwahati: A tourist bus caught fire near the Kaziranga National Park on Monday and five passengers died in the incident. The bus caught fire after hitting a truck.

The incident took place at 4:30 am on Monday as the bus was travelling from Tinsukia to Guwahati.

The rest of the passengers have been rushed to nearby hospitals.

Police said the accident occurred when the bus, on way from Tinsukia to Guwahati, hit the trailer truck, which was carrying four-wheelers and coming from the opposite direction, at Basagaon near Kaziranga National Park.

The National Highway 37 remained blocked for some time after the accident but traffic had now resumed on that stretch.
