The month of Ashada, as per the Hindu calendar began on July 6. With the start of this month, the devotees of Goddess Chamunda visit the Sri Chamundeshwari Devi Temple, atop the Chamund Hill in Mysuru, Karnataka. The Ashada Shukravara (Friday) scores the highest number of devotees. The Mysuru District Administration has made all arrangements for the ease of devotees during this month. The first Ashada Friday will take place tomorrow, on July 12. In the bid to accommodate the needs of the incoming devotees, this year, Chamundeshwari Seva Samiti has decided to distribute sweets on the occasion of the first Ashad Friday. Around 25,000 Mysore Paks are being prepared to be distributed to the devotees for the 19th anniversary. Preparations for Mysore Pak are going on in full swing.

For three days, around 50 skilled chefs are engaged in the preparation of Mysore Pak at Nithyananda Kalyana Mandapam. Mysore Pak is prepared using 200 kg chickpea flour, 500 kg sugar, 30 kg refined oil, 100 kg ghee and 3 kg cardamom. The Mysore Pak will be packed in cardboard boxes. Chamundi devotees will get to taste these Mysore Paks in the form of Prasad tomorrow.

The Ashada Fridays will be held on July 12, 19, 26 and August 2. Sri Chamundeshwari Vardanthi will take place on July 27. The Vardanthi is celebrated on the day when Maharaja Mummadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar presented the Utsava Murthy of the goddess to the temple. The Maharaja installed the idol in Revathi nakshatra of Ashada masa.

Devotees across Karnataka especially Mysuru and Bengaluru visit the temple. Sri Chamundeshwari Devi Temple also attracts devotees from neighbouring states like Tamil Nadu. For hassle-free movements of devotees, a ban has been imposed on the movement of private vehicles on the Chamundi Hills in the upcoming five days including Saturdays and Sundays. Free shuttle service, by KSRTC city buses, has been provided on July 12, 19, 26, 27 and August 2, from Lalitha Mahala Palace Hotel grounds, where a parking facility is provided for private vehicles.
