TUMKUR: “Running a government without a majority is a like a tight-rope walk in a circus, more so with the troubles from JD(S), Congress and some detractors from within the BJP itself,” said the former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa. In what seemed to be an attempt at airing his demand to become the chief minister again, he said he was outspoken and never concealed his moves.
In fact, various speakers at the event proclaimed him to be the chief minister; the fact that D V Sadananda Gowda was the CM was probably lost on them. Even Yeddyurappa was no exception. During his speech, he said “I am the CM”, but quickly corrected himself. “Sadananda Gowda should not feel bad,” he later added in jest.
Claiming to be a disciple of former prime minister Atal Behari Vajpayee, he expressed his wish to step into the latter’s shoes as he had taken into confidence the people of all religions.
“For the next 15 years, I will never turn my back on active politics,” he asserted in a speech to mark the inaugural of the Hebbur-Gulur lift irrigation project in Tumkur Rural assembly constituency on Thursday. He recalled that when he was the chief minister, he had released Rs 250 crore for minority development boards as against a mere Rs 50 crore by his predecessors.
During his address, he advised people to educate their children about the schemes introduced by him. Yeddyurappa clarified that he will continue with his state-wide tour whose second leg has commenced in the old Mysore region.
