HYDERABAD: An ill-fated youth born in poverty, managed to break its vicious grip and has now risen to become a chartered accountant. The journey was not at all easy. He had to toil and toil very hard. For five long years, he did not sleep at night because he had to work not only to keep the wolf away from the door but also inch his way towards his destiny.D Nagaiah worked as a seven-seater auto helper for a couple of years to support his intermediate education. Then he learnt to drive and became an auto driver, for three years to support his graduation.Nagaiah who passed the CA final exams recently, can now chose a good job which would definitely fetch him more than Rs 50,000 per month. “I will support the academic aspirations of children from my village. Poverty should not be an obstacle towards an education,” he said. The young chartered accountant’s father, who is an alcoholic had thrown up his hands in a gesture of helplessness when asked to provide money for the education of his son.Nagaiah had scored 71 percent marks in his SSC exams. He then decided to move to Hyderabad from Yaragaddagudem, his native village in Nalgonda district, with the sole aim of continuing his education.Burning ambition made him take admission to the intermediate vocational course (accounting and taxation) in Saroor Nagar govt jr college, where he had to attend the classes from 1 p.m to 5 p.m every day. While his brother used to run the auto from morning 8 a.m to night 8 p.m, Nagaiah used to work as a helper during the nights from 8 p.m to 8 a.m along with another driver, for which he used to get Rs 50 per day.The short sleeping spells did not go to waste. He stood first in the Saroor Nagar government junior college with 82 per cent marks in 2002. Nagaiah then secured admission to a degree college where he had to attend classes from from 9 a.m to 2 p.m. He worked during his off college hours and scored more than 65 per cent marks. He used to sleep from 2.30 p.m 7 p.m.A college lecturer inspired him to become a CA. But, Nagaiah did not have enough money to get CA coaching, which forced him to drive an auto for another couple of years. After completing his CA (intermediate), he joined a chartered accountancy firm which paid him Rs 15,000 per month. He got through CA (final) at the recently exams. Now firms are ready to pay him the amount he desires. Nagaiah’s mother, Sugunamma is filled with pride over her son’s achievement.
