MADURAI: The Principal Sessions Court at Srivilliputhur, on Wednesday, dismissed the bail plea of former minister ‘Sattur’ KKSSR Ramachandran and three others in connection with a case related to shielding a person involved in a murder case in Virudhunagar in 2007.He was arrested on April 10, this year, after Shahul Hameed, a DMK functionary, confessed that he had murdered Lakshmanan, a postman of Virudhunagar on Sept 1, 2007. Hameed reportedly had an extra marital affair with Lakshmanan’s wife Mariammal. He and Mariammal murdered Lakshmanan. Shahul Hammed reportedly approached Ramachandran, who allegedly used his influence to close the case and helped the accused to escape from the case. The police zeroed in on the accused and based on the confession of Hameed and Mariammal took Ramachandran into custody. The ex-minister, former Superintendent of Police Devaraj, inspector Manoharan and the accused Shahul Hameed filed bail petitions at the Sessions Court, which were dismissed by the judge after the counsel appearing for the State contended that the accused mi-ght influence the witnesses if they were let out on bail. Meanwhile, two retired Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSP) C Kumaravel (61) of Thanjavur and V M Shahul Hameed (58) of Madurai have filed anticipatory bail applications before the Madras High Court Bench. In their petitions, the duo have stated that they were unable to proceed with the investigation after the murder due to the interference of ‘Sattur’ Ramachandran.
