JEYPORE: Vehicular traffic was badly hit on the first day of the PLGA (People’s Liberation Guerilla Army) Week observed by the Maoists. Transportation to and outside Koraput district was badly hit on Friday with the Maoists blocking roads in Govindapalli, Laxmipur and Narayanpatna areas.The markets in KBK districts remained shut leading to a loss of over Rs 10 crore. The supply of commodities and goods to the Maoist-infested areas came to a grinding halt from Thursday evening.Earlier, Maoists sought support for the PLGA Week through banners and posters and threatened people with dire consequence if they did not adhere to their dictates.The officials working in Maoist-infested areas too did not move out of their camps which was evident from the little rush at the district headquarters of Koraput, Malkangiri and Rayagada.To check possible infiltration by Maoists from neighbouring Andhra Pradesh through the bordering areas of Narayanpatna and Parvatipuram jungles over a 1000 armed forces of both the states have launched a massive combing operation.Special police operation teams are conducting sorties to bordering villages, sources said.The intense exercise has been launched, it is believed, to raid the camps set up by top Maoist leaders of Andhra Pradesh and Orissa special zone Maoist in different jungles of Narayanpatna bordering Andhra.The arrest of 10 Maoists some days back the police gave a breakthrough. They are now hopeful of hunting down more Maoists during the ongoing clinical operation.Though police are tight-lipped about the ongoing operation in Narayanpatna jungles, it is learnt that Koraput DIG S Priyadarshi and his counterparts from Visakhapatnam with senior BSF officials are keeping a round-the-clock vigil of the developments.Malkangiri: Normal life was partially hit in Malkangiri. While private buses continued to ply between Malkangiri and Jeypore on the State Highway-25, government bus services remained suspended to avert any untoward incident. Things were no different at Korukonda, MV-79, Podia, Govindpalli, Mathili, Kudmulgumma, Khairput, Chitrakonda, Motu and Balimela areas.Traffic on Lamtaput-Machhkund-Ankadelhi in the neighbouring Koraput district was thin but business establishments remained open here.Meanwhile, police and paramilitary forces have intensified search operation and are frisking all vehicles entering the town. Security forces are on high alert at Kalimela, Govindpalli, Boipariguda, Chitrakonda and Balimela. The Maoists have called a 48-hour bandh from Decemeber 4 in Koraput, Malkangiri and Rayagada districts.
