Bangalore University to be split into two?

GULBARGA: There is a proposal before the State government to split Bangalore University into two, Minister for Higher Education Dr V S Acharya said here on Wednesday.He told reporters that Bangalore University is a vast university and for its smooth functioning, it would be better to bifurcate it.  “This is the opinion of many scholars and the government is giving serious thought to the matter. Though most of the academicians want to split it, they want the university to be affiliated with Bangalore,” he said. “Considering this, the government may name the two university as Bangalore North University and Bangalore South University after the bifurcation,” he said. On the recent attack on Vice-Chancellor Dr N Prabhu Dev by Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishat (ABVP) activists, the minister said that senior ABVP members and some Syndicate members met him and narrated their versions. They were unhappy with the functioning of Vice-Chancellor and the Registrar with regard to announcing the date of examination of various courses. The higher education minister said Dr Prabhu Dev could have spoken to him on Tuesday, but the meeting could not take place due to various reasons. The VC may meet him in a day or two, Acharya said.
