London: Realising his worth at Real Madrid, England soccer captain David Beckham is demanding that the Spanish club a pay deal of Pound 7.7 lakh (Rs 6.13 crore) a week.
According to some media reports the debonair English captain made the audacious demand, which adds up to Pound 40 million (Rs 318 crore) a year, because he realised that he is Madrid's most valuable asset.
Beckham, 30, wants a basic weekly salary of Pound 1.9 lakh (Rs 1.5 crore) plus all the profits from his shirt sales that have made the elite club the richest in the world.
But he may be prepared to settle for Pound 5.4 lakh (Rs 4.3 crore) a week after negotiations over his image rights, the report said.
This will still make him the world's third highest paid sportsman after World no1 golf star Tiger Woods and Ferrari's seven-time World Champion Michael Schumacher.
In contrast the highest paid Indian sports star, Sachin Tendulkar earns about Rs 20 crore a year.
