Sayan Midya, a 25-year-old from Kakdwip town in Bengal’s 24 Parganas, has made history by creating an artwork using discarded blade fragments. He earned recognition in the India Book of Records. His creation, themed Woman Power, reflects his lifelong passion for drawing. Residing in Ganesh Nagar, Kakdwip, Sayan has been fascinated with art since childhood, often using unconventional materials to create his pieces. Previously, Sayan experimented with discarded paper and other waste materials, consistently transforming trash into artistic treasures. His latest project involved depicting the theme of woman power using pieces of broken blades. To complete this artwork, Sayan meticulously used a total of 70 blades, dedicating five continuous hours to the task without taking any breaks.

Inspired by the idea that achieving a record requires novelty, Sayan decided to experiment with drawing using blades for the first time. This innovative approach brought him success and recognition. Despite growing up in financial hardship, Sayan pursued his passion for art with the support of his aunt, Lakshmi Pal, who provided him with the necessary resources to learn drawing. Sayan was raised by his aunt, who has been a significant influence and support in his life.

Currently, Sayan gives back to his community by teaching drawing to local children for free. Talking to Loca18, he said that he has around 70-80 students at present. Expanding his reach beyond Bengal, he has started coaching people in Bihar and Punjab too.He said that he also coaches international students from the US through online methods. He aims to see his artwork gain recognition not just in India but also internationally. The local residents are proud of Sayan’s achievements and celebrate his success, as he continues to inspire others with his creativity and determination. Sayan’s journey from using discarded materials to creating record-breaking art demonstrates his resourcefulness and commitment to his craft.
