New Delhi: First he took over Amitabh Bachchan's title of King of Bollywood, then he starred in the remake of Big B's blockbuster Don and now Shah Rukh Khan has taken over as the host of popular TV show Kaun Banega Crorepati.
Shah Rukh Khan is leaving no stone unturned to be the next big thing of Bollywood and the small screen, and the Big B is not too happy about it.
According to reports, a 'long simmering rivalry' between the top men of Bollywood carried on into the new year, with the Bachchan family conspicuous by its absence at a party thrown by SRK.
The grapevine also has it that the party was attended by all bigwigs of the Indian film industry including Salman Khan, Preity Zinta and Rani Mukherjee among others.
And so much has the alleged rivalry grown that the top stars of Bollywood have even been featured on the January 9 episode of the hugely popular The Colbert Report on Comedy Central.
The host of the show, Stephen Colbert deadpanned over the 'missing celebrities' at the new year bash in a segment of his show titled We The Mediator.
Colebrt was quoted by agencies as saying, "The celebrity squabble that everyone in the nation is talking about is between Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan - the king and prince of Bollywood - kind of like Robert Redford and Brad Pitt, only rip off the knob and crank up the handsome. We all know the details."
The well-meaning host mispronounced names and might have missed the cultural context a bit, but brought the house down when he said, "If Preity Zinta is going to a party, you better f%$*!$g show up."
The very fact that Indian celebrities were featured for two-and-a--half minutes on a US comedy shows that Indian cinema is making huge inroads abroad. The short spoof may also have been aired keeping in mind the fact that the show is extremely popular amongst Indian Americans.
