Patna: RJD president and Railway Minister Lalu Prasad today flayed Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for failing to provide adequate relief to flood victims in the state.
Prasad, who returned here after visiting the flood-affected districts of Saharsa, Supaul, Madhepura, Purnia, Katihar and Araria, told reporters that "it is not a normal flood but tsunami" and the Centre has rightly declared the ravages caused by the river Kosi as "national calamity".
He said relief was not being made available to the marooned people in the flood-hit districts due to the casual approach of the Chief Minister and his officials overseeing the relief and rescue operations.
Charging the Chief Minister with having scant respect for flood victims, Prasad said there was great resentment against Kumar and state Water Resources Development Minister Brijendra Prasad Yadav in the flood-affected areas.
The Railway Minister said keeping in view the miserable condition of the people in flood-ravaged districts, the Chief Minister should visit the areas by road and see for himself their condition and monitor the relief and rescue operations.
