SHIMOGA: State BJP president K S Eshwarappa predicted that former minister B Sriramulu, who is contesting as an independent candidate in the Bellary rural byelection, will not win the poll and should he win he will not be inducted into the party. He addressed the media here on Tuesday that Bellary is no longer conducive for Sriramulu as voters have inclined towards the BJP and would vote for it.Not all the MLAs and MPs are with Sriramulu as he has depicted and he cannot win the election, he asserted.“Sriramulu and the Reddy brothers were with the party and helped it come to power, but later resigned from the party... As a party chief, I do not know the reason (for the resignation)... Now he is contesting the byelection for unknown reasons,” he detailed.Eshwarappa professed ignorance at former CM B S Yeddyurappa’s statement that he would not campaign in favour of the party candidate.“I will speak to him and clarify the issue... He is our leader. We will win the election with his rich experience.”The state BJP president was also evasive on the former CM’s statement that he would quit the BJP if he were annoyed further.“I will not comment on such emotional statements...He was pained at the conspiracy of Congress and JD(S) who tried to tarnish his image.”He, however, said that taking action against those party leaders supporting Sriramulu is not the only solution.“I would ask them to come and campaign. So far, Karunakar Reddy has not expressed his support to Sriramulu and is still neutral,” he added.Eshwarappa said that on November 16 an election office will be inaugurated in Bellary. Another meeting will be held in Bangalore the next day where poll duties will be assigned.
