PALAKKAD: KSRTC bus services did not operate to Coimbatore on Monday in view of the blockade imposed by a group at Ettimadai on the Tamil Nadu side of the border. Only the first convoy, comprising eight buses, went to Coimbatore . Subsequently, the buses operated in convoys upto Walayar only. The buses of the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation also operated only upto the place were the blockade was imposed. Small vehicles were diverted to Coimbatore via Kanjikode and Menonpara by deputy commandant Suresh Kumar, the nodal officer of the control room in Walayar for Kerala and deputy superintendent of police Palaniswamy, liasing for Tamil Nadu. Though the KSRTC buses were scheduled to operate normal services in the evening to Coimbatore was also suspended. District Collector K V Mohan Kumar said that he had spoken to his counterpart in Coimbatore and normal services would resume as usual from Tuesday.SP M B Dinesh said that normalcy will be restored within a few days. Once the normal services to Coimbatore is established, regular services will be operated to Pollachi. He said, now with contact between the lower-level police officials of the two states will enable normalcy to be restored easily.
