Mumbai: Life is finally looking up for Pankaj Sharma, better known as Bollywood's Bobby Darling.
The actor is finally winning respect and recognition after a decade of struggle.
Bobby who played himself in Santosh Sivan's national award winning film Navarasa was recently conferred with the best supporting actor award at the Monaco International Film Festival.
"People's attitude have changed as big directors have started calling me and now I want to do normal roles, I want to prove my versatility," Bobby said.
Like every success story has a history of challenges, Bobby too has his own - from being ill-treated by fellow bar dancers to always being at the receiving end of bawdy jokes in Bollywood.
Bobby reminisces that even while he shot for Navarasa, he had to put up with demoralising and sometimes humiliating experiences.
"Eunuchs have harassed me and asked me to go in for castration. They said we will give you gold and make you the head of the community but I said I didn't want to do any of these things. I want to be a woman and not a eunuch," Bobby reasoned.
Bobby is very excited about his sex-change operation that he will undergo next year and is happy that in a society where homosexuality and cross-dressing are still taboo he is finally being accepted.
