NEDUMBASSERY: The mortal remains of two Malayali nurses P K Vineetha, 23, and Remya Rajappan,24, who died in the Kolkata hospital fire were brought to Kochi Airport at 7.30 pm on Sunday. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, Union Minister Vayalar Ravi, Finance Minister K M Mani, Revenue Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, MPs P C Chacko, Jose K Mani and K P Dhanapalan, Anwar Sadath MLA, Kottayam District Collector Mini Antony and other dignitaries were present at the airport to pay tributes to the ill-fated victims.Rajesh, brother of deceased Remya, and Vijayan, uncle of Vineetha, had accompanied the bodies on board the Jet Airways flight. Sandhyamol, another injured in the fire, also arrived at the airport by the same flight. The airport witnessed heart-breaking scenes when the relatives of the nurses received the bodies. The Chief Minister, Ministers, elected representatives and leaders of social,religious and cultural fields placed wreaths on the bodies. The bodies were taken to their home towns in Kottayam district accompanied by a huge convoy of vehicles at 8.10 pm. The state government is committed to giving adequate compensation to the victims, said Oommen Chandy. The decision would be take in the next meeting of the Cabinet. The burial will be held with state honors.Vineetha of Pullikal, Kothanalloor, Kottayam, had joined the AMRI a couple of months ago. She is survived by her father Kunjumon, mother Mary and sister Divya. Remya of Mecheril, Uzhavoor, Kottayam, had joined the hospital six months ago. She is survived by her father Rajappan, mother Usha and brother Rejesh.
