The city police on Thursday arrested an engineering student for making a hoax call to the police control room claiming that a bomb had been planted in a crowded place in the city.
Nithin B Chandran, a second-year BTech student of Sarabhai Institute of Science and Technology at Vellanadu here, was taken into custody by Pangode police from his residence at Pangode near Kallara late in the evening and handed over to the Cantonment police for further interrogation.
According to the police, he made the call from his mobile phone. The call spurred the police into action and bomb squads soon began combing the crowded areas in the city.
Meanwhile, the police team traced the call to Nithin’s mobile phone.
