Despite being provided breathalyzers that indicate the alcohol level in a person's blood, the men in white-and-khaki don't usually require one to spot the 'blotto' cases. "At every checkpoint, especially on weekends, we have a breathalyzer with us, but in general we can spot a drunk person the minute they open their mouths," explains a traffic SI in T Nagar, "In fact, most of the time, we use the machine just to show the drunk drivers themselves that they have had too much," he adds with amusement. With logic like that, no one can argue that cops are taking the law into their own hands.Jokes apart, breathalyzers have become integral to stop people who have spent too much time at the bar, from hurting themselves on the road, "The CCTP and the Law and Order police work together such that more personnel with breath analyzers are employed on weekends and at strategic places near pubs and on the ECR," says Sanjay Arora. Each of the 67 traffic police station in the city and mobile patrol units have been supplied one that takes the number of breathalyzers in the city to over 80.
