BANGALORE: In recognition of the valuable contribution made by Canara Bank for corporate social responsibility, the Institute of Public Enterprises and Subir Raha Centre for Corporate Governance Hyderabad conferred the Corporate Social Responsibility Award for the year 2010-11.The coveted consisting of statute and a citation was received by Archna S Bhargava, executive director from R K Mishra, Institute of Public Enterprises in a glittering function held at Hyderabad today.One of the many initiatives taken by the bank so far, was to assist lakhs of people in self employment by setting UP Canara Bank Centenary Rural Development Trust and imparting training through 26 self-employment training institutes and four Canara Bank Institute of Information Technology spread throughout the country.There are three specialised institutes to impart training in traditional arts and crafts which has been set up for reviving Indian traditional art and crafts.Through this the bank hopes to help craftsman.Similarly, there are training institutes set up for imparting training to minorities, SC/STs, women and self help groups.Canara Bank has also jointly co-sponsored 26 Rural Development Self Employment Training Institutes along with Syndicate Bank and Sri Kshethra Dharmasthala Manjunatheswara Educational Trust.
