Hyderabad: Police have registered a case against the father and other relatives of S Chaitanya Reddy, who allegedly killed his wife Dr Kiran Reddy, niece of Union Minister S Jaipal Reddy, for 'obstructing the police from performing their duty'.
The case was registered against Chaitanya's father S Devender Reddy and others (including his relatives) for obstructing the police from performing their duties while Chaitanya was being taken to a local court on Wednesday, a senior police officer said on Thursday.
"We are analysing the video recording and will book all those who obstructed the policemen," Banjara Hills Division Assistant Commissioner of Police R Ravinder Reddy told PTI.
Several family members and relatives of the accused who gathered at the Jubilee Hills police station on Wednesday pushed the policemen and allegedly tried to manhandle Circle Inspector K Narasingh Rao, while Chaitanya was being taken to
the court.
Police registered a case under section 353 (obstructing public servant from dishcharing duties) of Indian Penal Code against Devender Reddy and others in connection with the incident.
Chaitanya, a medical doctor was arrested on June 21 on charge of smothering his wife Kiran to death after indulging in an argument in an inebriated condition.
However, Chaitanya had alleged that he was stripped and beaten for three days by police to extract the confession and claimed that police resorted to 'third-degree' methods against him to make him confess to the murder charge.
After being produced before the 17th Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court, Chaitanya had even complained to the magistrate that the police had 'tortured' him.
Chaitanya was remanded in judicial custody and was admitted to Osmania General Hospital (OGH) for medical examination, following court orders.
