BANGALORE: Seenappa Chikkarangappa is just 17 year-old, but is far more mature than his age. Give him a club and he will swing it to the right target like any other professional golfer. After a morale boosting win at Coimbatore, the Bangalore’s golf sensation will return to his favourite hunting ground-Karnataka Golf Association- to take part in the Southern India Amateur Golf Championship on Tuesday.Although he has made the Eagleton Golf Resorts as his home but it was at the KGA where Chikka, as he is affectionately referred by the young and old, has a far more impressive record, winning all the three tournaments he took part. Coming to Bangalore fresh from his stunning win at Coimbatore, Chikka will be hoping to set the record straight in Bangalore.“I am very confident after my Coimbatore win. Here at the KGA the greens are faster which suits my style of golf.Playing in amateur circuit is much better than the juniors because the competition is high here,” he pointed.Chikka bounced back from a four-stroke deficit to upset Asian Games silver medalist Abhijith Chadha to win the title at the par-72 Coimbatore Golf Club course. His shots were awry but Chikka managed to keep the ball in play and waited for Chadha to commit the early mistake.“It was a great win. Chadha was doing good through out.The game took a different turn in the dying stages on the last day.My shots weren’t coming good but after 12th hole I surged ahead when he made a bogey and I birdied to take the lead,” he said.Chikka, currently leads the Amateur circuit with 226 points while his friend and Bangalorean Khalin Joshi is second by 179 points. Gagan Verma of Delhi is third with 176 points.Chikka, who rose to the number one rank this season, will have to battle it out with Abhijith Chadda of Chandigarh, Khalin Joshi who are in fine fettle. That apart, junior number one Trishul Chinnappa can also cause an upset.“The draw has a competetive golfers who can cause anything on their day. There is Abhijith Chadda and Khalin Joshi who are very good in this course. Trishul Chinnappa too is impressive,” Chikka observed.Chikka will be hoping to reap rich rewards when he tees off at the Duke of United Kingdom golf championship in September. This will mark the end of Chikka’s junior career internationally. “My immediate international golf will be at the Duke of United Kingdom golf championship. The top ranked boy and a girl golfer has the opportunity to take part in the UK. This will be my last international junior and I looking forward to it,” gushed Chikka.
