Choreographer threatened by gang with sickle

CHENNAI: Karun Raman, the popular Fashion choreographer, was allegedly threatened by a gang with a sickle when he visited a popular pub on Radhakrishnan Salai with his friends here on Sunday. According to Karun, he and two of his friends were dining at the pub on Sunday night when a gang of six, including an actress, who were seated in the next table, were making fun of them. “Suddenly one from the gang threw a cushion at me and when I protested, he began verbally abusing me,” Karun told Express.  “The gang then left the place and returned a little later with a sickle. They held it by my neck and threatened me and my friends. Though I am a regular at the pub and I know how good the security men are, these guys just walked in with a sickle. The security rushed towards us and the gang vanished,” he said.Then they waited outside the pub for me and my friends, the choreographer said.  Karun and his friends had to take the help of the security men to get to their cars safely. “This has never happened there before and I have not heard of such incidents. Today it is me. It could happen to anyone tomorrow,” he said.Karun claimed that he had lodged a complaint with the Royapettah police and a community service register was given, but he was under pressure to withdraw it. “They can’t be doing this and need to be taught a lesson,” he said. However, brushing it off as a minor incident, Royapettah police said that the youngsters were warned and let off. Police said that the young man in question was identified as Prashanth of Villivakkam, who could not be reached for comment. “They were all students and have behaved in rude way as they were in a drunken mood. A compromise has been reached,” said inspector Rajasekar.
