THRISSUR: Catholica Sabha, a Malayalam monthly published by the Thrissur Archdiocese, has come out against the Kerala Women’s Code Bill by Justice V R Krishna Iyer Commission, in its article titled ‘Mr Justice, you are wrong!’Published in the October issue, the story has made it loud and clear that the Christian community was not in favour of the Commission’s recommendation that a family should have only two children and the parents who beget three children should be fined Rs 10,000 or three months’ imprisonment.Quoting Syro-Malabar Major Archbishop Mar George Alancheri, the story demands that the commission should be dissolved. The article says the Women’s Code Bill has been experimented by the Communist government in China and Hitler in Germany and this is what Krishna Iyer is trying to put into effect here. The journal has unambiguously made its stance that the Bill could expect strong protest if it is legislated. “If population control is the objective of Krishna Iyer, he should seek other means,” the report says.KCBC head Archbishop Mar Thazhath says in the report that “such reccomendations are against the religious freedom that is permissible in the constitution. This shall be dealt with strongly through awareness programmes and protest meets.” The article calls for ousting Krishna Iyer from the Commission. It also highlights the Chief Minister’s visit to Krishna Iyer’s home to accept the report suggesting that the UDF Government has no other go but to reject the report. The article also cited that Iyer has lauded Oommen Chandy as an able Chief Minister to get his recommendations accepted.
