BHUBANESWAR: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday demanded early revival of the Talcher plant of the Fertiliser Corporation of India Limited (FCIL).In a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the Chief Minister said the important matter has been pending for long. He requested Singh to take immediate steps for its revival keeping in view the importance of this national asset.“I understand that steps have been taken for revival of the FCIL plant and my Government has agreed to provide all necessary support for the revival package as requested by the Secretary, Fertilisers, Government of India,” he said and requested Prime Minister’s intervention to expedite the process.Naveen said the State Government accords highest priority to agriculture and would like to ensure timely and adequate supply of fertilisers to farmers. The State is experiencing urea shortage frequently and the demand-supply gap for urea has widened over the years, he said and added that there was no urea plant in the eastern region. Stating that revival of the Talcher plant would go a long way in addressing the chronic shortage, the Chief Minister said this step would provide employment and also contribute to the overall development of the eastern region.Further, this plant can build synergy with the Petroleum, Chemicals and Petrochemical Investment Region (PCPIR) which the Government is developing with the support of the Centre, he said.
