RAMANATHAPURAM: The family members of the September 11 Paramakudi police firing and the injured aired their grievances before a committee set up in this connection at Paramakudi here on Saturday.The Action Committee Against Paramakudi Firing conducted the public inquiry at a wedding hall with retired judge of the Mumbai High Court H Suresh chairing it. Around 87 people were called for examination, wherein they narrated their plight and sought justice. Going through the several complaints lodged by the affected people, the committee asked them to be more specific by naming the erring police personnel.Former vice-chancellor of Manonmaniam Sundaranar University Vasanthi Devi, former police officer in Tripura Subramaniam, former State government secretary Karuppan, retired police officer from Gujarat Sri Kumar and other members attended the inquiry.Retired judge Suresh told Express that the police should have controlled the crowd before resorting to a lathicharge and opening fire. Adding that the police had no licence to kill, he said cases under IPC Section 302 should be lodged against the respective police officials for opening fire on the people who were running for cover.He said an executive magistrate should conduct a proper inquiry to bring out the truth. The committee would submit its report to the government at the earliest, the retired judge added.
