Cops suspect doctors affair behind kidnap

A day after a radiologist of the Yahsoda Hospital went missing under mysterious circumstances, investigators claimed to have identified the abductors and said it was only a matter of time before the 35-yr-old was traced.

Investigators said Sri Harsha Reddy’s relation with a woman could have been the reason behind his abduction, though they do not rule out money as another possible factor.

Sources associated with the probe told Express that a day prior to his kidnap, Reddy spent the entire night at a house in Jubilee Hills. An unidentified person called up his father and said, “Your son was found with our girl.”

However, he hung up without giving any other details. Harsha’s family members have reportedly been giving conflicting versions on whether they received a call for ransom.

“Sometimes, they say they received a call demanding a ransom of Rs 50 lakh, but then deny it. They are not forthcoming,” sources said.

The CCTV footage at the hospital showed the images of Harsha coming out of the hospital with a female colleague, also a radiologist in the same hospital, a day before he went missing.

Harsha had even informed his roommate Bharat over the phone that he was going on a long drive with his colleague and might not return home that day. Reddy is believed to have travelled to Nalgonda, allegedly with a woman. His mobile phone was found in Suryapet on Wednesday.

Suryapet deputy superintendent of police T Venkanna told Express that Reddy’s mobile phone was found by one Ramesh at Durajpalli village on NH 9 who then took it to one Balu who activated it. On finding doctors’ names in the phone, the duo handed it over to the Chivvemla police.

“Reddy might have thrown his phone to indicate that the kidnappers were moving towards Vijayawada,” the DSP said. Police searched the lodges of nearby villages and in agricultural wells. They also visited Kavya Diagnostics at Suryapet where Reddy worked for more than a year.

“We have formed six teams which have fanned out to Vijayawada, Nalgonda and other places,” a police official said. Meanwhile, police said they identified some persons who might have been involved in the kidnap through the victim’s call data.
