Kavita's family confirmed that the body found by the police in Ganga Canal was not hers.

New Delhi: The trail of a sex and sleaze that led to the murder of Meerut University lecturer Kavita Rani turned murkier as her family confirmed that the body found by the police in Ganga Canal was not hers.

The body of Meerut University lecturer Kavita Rani is yet to be recovered even as the police have started looking for the corpse in the Ganga Canal in which it was reportedly disposed of.

Bulandshahr Superintendent of Police Piyush Srivastava said the flow of water into the canal was stopped two days ago. Equipped with nets, 10 teams were trying to trace the body within an area of 50 km.

Srivastava said the body of a 30-year-old girl, which was fished out three days ago, was yet to be identified. The post-mortem report revealed that the death occurred due to strangulation.

Prime accused in the sensational murder of Dr Kavita Ravindra had admitted in his confession that he along with his aide strangled the lecturer to death before disposing of the body in a canal in Sanauta in Bulandshahr district.

The SP said a DNA test would be conducted on the body of the 30-year-old. He said Dr Kavita's family had confirmed that it was not her body.

Meanwhile, police raided the Noida residence of Ravindra. Besides him, two more accused Harendra Pradhan and Trilok have surrendered before a court.

The Meerut University lecturer had visited her family at Dhansurpur village in Bulandshahr district in October. She returned to Meerut after Diwali and had been missing since.
