Could not register Opposition, says Karunanidhi

CHENNAI: DMK chief M Karunanidhi said that the party’s decision will be echoed in the Assembly after he chaired the MLAs meet held in sequel to the Budget presented in the Assembly, here on Monday. Karunanidhi, who was reluctant to share the details of the meeting, maintained that it would be understood from the way the party acts in the Assembly. Responding to the queries on the budget, Karunanidhi in a lighter vein said that he pitied Finance Minister O Panneerselvam, who took so long to present the complete budget. “He could have simply proceeded with the accolades instead of presenting the budget,” Karunanidhi said.On the target of `1,500 crore fund generation through taxes, he said, “If at all that could make the people realise their mistake, it can be enhanced further”, he opined. Asked about the opposition to the budget, Karunanidhi  pointed out that the opposition could not register their opposition as they did in the Centre in connection with the Union Budget.Tiruchendur MLA Anita Radhakrishnan who defected from AIADMK prior to the polls gave the meeting a miss as he had flown back to Madurai soon after the Budget was presented. MLA N Ramakrishnan who defected from MDMK, was present for the meet.
