CHENNAI: Three persons including a couple, died in two accidents, Poonamallee traffic police said on Saturday. Ganesan (50), a private company employee from Padasalai street, Thiruverkadu was on his way to visit a relative at Poonamallee, along with his wife Lakshmi (45). Nearing Poonamallee, a government bus, which was on its way to Tirupati, hit the two-wheeler from behind, causing the couple to be thrown away. Later, both of them died. The police arrested bus driver, Sekar.In another accident reported near Maduravoyal, a mini tempo driver Chandran (42), who was ferrying vegetables from Koyembedu on his way home in Nariyamangalam, Keezkanathur, in Thiruvannamalai district, died on the spot after his auto rammed into a parked lorry near the Maduravoyal toll gate. Four others, who were seated in the back of the vehicle escaped.  Two Run Over by TrainsTwo persons died after they were run over by trains, in separate incidents within the Korukkupet railway police limits, on Saturday. Praveen Kumar (20) of Tada, Andhra Pradesh, was crossing the railway tracks near Kavarapettai when an EMU ran over him. In the other such incident, Murugan (30) of Tiruvottiyur, who was returning from Sathangadu was run over by an EMU when he crossed the tracks near Thiruvottiyur railway station. Further investigation is on.Ex-serviceman HeldThe suburban police arrested an ex-serviceman for allegedly abusing a contractor verbally at Thirumullaivoyal, on Saturday. Ex-serviceman Muthusamy Pillai (54) of Mahaveer Avenue, Thirumullaivoyal was held for reportedly using foul language against building contractor Arul Vijay Raj, when the latter asked for money that Pillai owed him. The contractor had constructed a house for the ex-serviceman and Pillai owed him a balance of Rs 40,000. When the contractor arrived to recover his dues, the ex-serviceman verbally abused him, which Vijay Raj clandestinely recorded on his mobile phone. He then produced the same before the police, after which and he was arrested.Youth Block Traffic on East Coast RoadA large group of youngsters, who were playing cricket on the beach, blocked traffic after police warned them to stop the game and seized their bats and stumps at Neelangarai, on Sunday. Sources said trouble broke out when the youngsters, mainly students, were warned by a police patrol about the ban on playing cricket near the beach. The cops also took away their cricket gear. Enraged, the youths, blocked traffic at Palavakkam on ECR. On information, the Neelangarai police warned the protesters to disperse and there was a heated exchange between them. When the youths refused to budge, police resorted to a mild lathi-charge.Three Held for RobberyThree persons were arrested for snatching a gold chain from a woman at Korukkupet on Saturday.  Jaya (50) was asleep in her house with the door open for ventilation. A three-member gang entered the house, snatched her five-sovereign gold chain and escaped. A police patrol that arrested the trio identified them as Logu, Kuppan and Muniyandi of New Washermenpet. The gold chain was recovered. In another incident, V Selvi of Errukanchery was returning home in a ‘share auto’, when a two-wheeler rider snatched her chain on Rajaji Salai.
