Criminal nabbed

ROURKELA: Notorious criminal Ashok Majhi was on Thursday arrested by a team of Sundargarh police after an exchange of fire near Birkera area, about 20 km from here.Sundargarh SP Sanjeev Arora said the firing took place around 11.30 am under the Brahmani Tarang police station area following which Majhi was arrested by a special police team. Rajgangpur SDPO PK Panigrahi said that police were tipped off about the movement of the absconding Majhi and accordingly a team tracked him near Birkera area. He said the police team chased Majhi while he was riding his motorcycle. Watching the police team Majhi unleashed two rounds of fire which missed the target. In retaliation, police fired three rounds and Majhi received two bullets. He has been admitted to the Rourkela Government Hospital                  and his condition is                               stable. Police said Majhi had unleashed a reign of terror in areas under the Rajgangpur Assembly segment with nearly 30 cases of heinous crimes, including murder, dacoity and extortion, pending against him.
