Kolkata: Former High Court judge CS Karnan is reportedly suffering from respiratory congestion, giddiness, hypertension and mild chest pain.
Moments after he was taken to Presidency Jail on Wednesday, the 62-year-old told jail officials that he was feeling uneasy. Karnan was immediately admitted to the jail hospital, located inside the campus.
“Karnan is under the observation of a senior doctor. He is feeling better now,” a jail official said, adding that he will be examined again on Friday.
A team of West Bengal Police brought Karnan to Kolkata on Wednesday. He landed at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport around 2.30 pm and was taken straight to the State General Hospital in Bidhannagar for a basic medical check-up.
After a preliminary health check-up, he was taken to the Presidency Correctional Centre after his request to suspend a six-month prison sentence for contempt of court was rejected by the Supreme Court.
He was provided a bed and along with a chair. The old CCTV camera has been replaced by a new one. A team of three officers was formed to keep an eye on him to avoid any embarrassing situation.
