CWG: Dikshit meets PM over Shunglu report
The Shunglu Committee report indicted her and Lt Governor Tejinder Khanna for irregularities in CWG projects.

New Delhi: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, on Tuesday, met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and explained her government's position on the Shunglu Committee report which indicted both her and Lt Governor Tejinder Khanna for irregularities in certain CWG projects.

In the meeting that lasted for an hour, Dikshit is believed to have explained the circumstances in which certain decisions were taken by the Delhi Government to ensure timely completion of the projects and expressed disappointment over making the report of the probe panel public.

Dikshit is also understood to have explained to the Prime Minister about the "collective feelings" of her cabinet which had discussed the report and was "deeply disappointed" with the findings as it made "insinuations at the government".

Earlier in the day, Dikshit had said her government "did everything possible to ensure that Games are held successfully in the city."

"I have failed to understand what wrong did we commit. I did take personal interest in some projects as it was the need of the hour. We put lot of efforts to ensure that we hold the event very successfully," Dikshit said.

Asked about whether she took personal interest in certain projects like the street-lighting project which has been criticised by the Shunglu panel, Dikshit said "I did take personal interest as it was the need of the hour."

"We are replying point-by-point, paragraph-by-paragraph in response to the observations by the Shunglu committee," Dikshit said adding that "anybody found guilty of wrongdoings will not be spared."

In the Cabinet meeting, the Chief Minister briefed the Ministers about the report and discussed what should be the response of the government to the report.

"We felt that the report is a kind of insinuation to the government. We are sending a detailed report to the PMO," said a Minister.

The Prime Minister-appointed Shunglu Committee has found procedural violations by Delhi Lt Governor Tejinder Khanna and Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit for alleged inadequacies in executing projects related to 2010 Commonwealth Games.

The Committee, appointed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to probe charges of corruption in various projects related to the sporting extravaganza, has submitted two reports on alleged irregularities in executing contracts related to construction of the Games Village and city infrastructure projects.

Earlier this week, Lt Governor Tejinder Khanna sent a 216-page response to the Prime Miniter's Office after the committee held him responsible for the alleged irregularities in the construction of the Commonwealth Games Village.
