The keenly-fought Punjab polls closed on Tuesday. Hours before the elections, crates of whiskey were brought out and distributed to villages in proportion to the likely votes by both parties. Despite a 48-hour ban enforced by Excise officials ahead of polling in the state, liquor was available to anyone who asked for it. Even women had been roped in to distribute the bottles. The Election Commissioner apparently was angry and pissed and has ordered an inquiry into the matter. No, no, he isn't pissed because they distributed booze. He is angry because no booze reached him. He is pissed because... he couldn't get pissed.

N Korea agrees to end N-programme

After arduous talks, North Korea agreed on Tuesday to shut down its main nuclear reactor and eventually dismantle its atomic weapons program, just four months after the Communist state shocked the world by testing a nuclear bomb.

The United States described the breakthrough agreement with North Korea on Tuesday as an "important first step" which cost the US $300 million to stop the nuclear programme. Reactions came in from all over the world. Pakistani officials scoffed at the news and said, "What's the big deal, for that kind of money even we can stop our nuclear programme".

"For half that money we'll even stop our terrorist programme," adds Pakistan.

Vodafone wins Hutch

Vodafone emerged as the top bidder for majority stake in India's fourth largest mobile player Hutch-Essar, leaving behind Anil Ambani Group's Reliance Communications, a consortium led by Hindujas and Hutch's partner Essar.

But how did Vodafone win and why did the powerful Anil Ambani lose? Why was Anil Ambani unable to grab Hutch?

By the way the Reliance pitch was higher than Vodafone's but due to lack of communication Ambani was unable to get his pitch across. You see the Reliance network was jammed.
