KOCHI: In the wake of a controversy over his statement regarding the safety of Mullaperiyar dam, Advocate General K P Dandapani on Friday clarified that the statements he made before the High Court were misinterpreted.Talking to the mediapersons at his Chamber in the Kerala High Court, the AG said he had not created any controversy.“My submission in the court was not against the interests of the state. I was only representing the state. During the last 42 years at the bar, my integrity and honesty were never questioned,” he said. The AG said he would never mislead the court and was clarifying the court’s queries regarding the safety of Mullaperiyar dam. “I submitted that the dam was on the verge of collapse due to the recent tremors and its old age. After the confusion, I spoke to the Chief Minister in this regard and clarified the issue. I think he is satisfied,” he said. Dandapani said he submitted the facts prepared by the Chief Secretary. The AG also clarified that his comments regarding the media were not made on behalf of the state. He rubbished the allegations that he had earlier appeared for the Tamil Nadu Government in the Mullaperiyar case.Dandapani clarified that in 1996, it was his wife Sumathi Dandapani who appeared for the Tamil Nadu government. “But she has not made any argument before the Kerala High court, because it was transferred to the Supreme Court.
