CHENNAI: A couple hailing from Tiruchy on Tuesday, submitted a petition to the City Commissioner of Police alleging that their daughter residing in Annanagar was being harassed by her husband and in-laws for dowry, particularly a Rs 15 lakh-worth luxury car.Gopal, a businessman, and his wife Manikavalli, stated that their daughter Gayatri (22) married one Sonai Yadav alias Seenu Ganesh, MD of a bakery in Annanagar, on September 7, 2009. At the time of marriage, they had given 75 sovereigns of gold, five kg of silver articles and Rs 10 lakh cash. Gayatri moved to her husband’s house in Anna Nagar, but soon her husband and in-laws began demanding more dowry, particularly a car costing Rs 15 lakh. “They even scissored her five-ft-long hair,” they said. A case has been filed.
